Our plush cow is called Nombe, which means cow in Bemba. Cows have played a vital role in the development of all societies- as barter products, as labor in agriculture, but also for milk and meat. Livestock has been a symbol of power and wealth. In many parts of Africa, cattle are still a symbol of wealth. The more animals you have, the more important you are.
Cows are considered to be kind and reliable. This is true of our soft handknitted cow – Nombe, who will quickly become a hugable favorite.

No 2 toys the same
We always strive to be as true to the original design as possible. With that said, you can not find two Yawama toys precisely the same. It is part of the charm of buying handmade. Some animals are longer, shorter, rounder or slimmer than the toy you saw in the picture. However, we promise that every toy has its charm and the same high quality. Yawama animals are as unique as the women who produce them.
