Our cushion cover Nkalamo gets its name from the Lion King. This magnificent animal is still threatened and a recent ban on Lion hunting has been imposed in Zambia to help with the predators dwindling numbers.
Behind the production of our cushion cover Nkalamo are artists from Tribal Textiles from Zambia who create unique hand-painted textiles. They mix traditional African art with modern design. Production takes place in harmony with nature and the local community. In a region where unemployment is high, Tribal Textiles is a significant employer with approximately hundred employees.
Fact: cushion covers are hand painted with pigment colour on 100% cotton. The manufacturing process consists of painting, starching, sun-drying and boiling of the fabrics. The colors are mixed by hand and therefore slight variations in color occur. Cushion covers are 46 x 46cm made to fit standard cushions 50x 50cm and can be machine washed in lukewarm water
